Off-label medicines, or medicines under the cascade, are medicines that have not been licensed to be used for a certain species or conditions. However, they may be used at the discretion of the responsible veterinarian where a licensed medicine is not available.

In accordance with UK law, when an off-label medicine is prescribed, a statement will be added to the prescription printout indicating that the medicine is prescribed under the cascade.

Define Off-Label Settings for a Medicine

1. Go to Catalog > Items.
2. Open the medicine you want to set as an of-label medicine.
3. Select the Off-label medicine checkbox.
4. For Off-label species, select the species you want to apply the off-label setting. By default, all species are selected.
5. Select Save.
