Use Placeholders in Text Templates

Placeholders are added using double opposing brackets [[...]]. They serve the purpose of indicating where and what information will be automatically added within the defined space from Provet Cloud. Available placeholders include standard information such as patient information, client information, medicine details, department (clinic) information, consultation and supervising veterinarian details, as well as date and time information. For a list of available placeholders, see List of Placeholders.

Default informational placeholders are provided, but users can also define custom placeholders within text templates.

Available placeholders depend on the selected template type. For example, invoice placeholders are only available when an invoice can be linked to the template. If no type is selected, no placeholders are available.

Add a Placeholder to a Text Template

To create or edit text templates, go to Settings > Lists & Templates > Templates > Text templates. For more information, see Create or Edit Text Templates.

To add a placeholder in a template, start by typing '[['. A list of available placeholders opens. You can filter the list by typing the placeholder level, such as 'patient' or 'client'.

Add a Custom Placeholder for Text Input Field or Option List

  • To add a placeholder for a text input field in the template, type [[ ]].
  • To add a description to the input field, type it between the double opposing brackets, for example, [[ optional placeholder text ]].
  • To add a placeholder for a larger text input field, type [[+ +]].
  • To add a description to the input field, type it between the double opposing brackets, for example, [[+ optional placeholder text +]]. The description can be, for example, instructions on what information the user should add to the field.
  • To add a placeholder for checkbox selections, type the options separated by a pipe character (|) between the double opposing brackets, for example, [[ option 1 | option 2 | option 3 | ... ]]
  • For single selection options (radio buttons or drop-down list), type the options separated by a forward slash, for example,  [[ text for option 1 / text for option 2 / ... ]]. You can define as many options as necessary.

Note that escape characters are not permitted inside placeholders. As a workaround, use the ⁄ (fraction slash) instead.
