Set Up Laboratory Handling and Urgency Fees

You can add handling and urgency fees for laboratory referrals which include one or more analyses and/or panels. These fees are added as separate items to the consultation invoice.

Set Up a Laboratory Handling Fee

  1. Go to Catalog > Items and create a procedure item that will be used as the laboratory handling fee item. The VAT rate and fee are defined by this item.

  2. Go to Settings > Department > Laboratory and select Use laboratory handling fee.

  3. In the Laboratory handling fee item field, select the item you created in step 1.

Note that if a referral on a consultation includes multiple analyses or panels, the fee is added if even one of them does not have this setting enabled.

Also note that some laboratory groups may be set so that the analyses or panels included in the group are always split into separate referrals. This results in multiple handling fees unless the fee is disabled for the items.

Disable the Laboratory Fee for a Laboratory Analysis or Panel

When the laboratory handling fee is enabled, the fee is added by default to every laboratory referral in a consultation. However, you can disable the fee for individual laboratory analyses or panels in the item settings:

  1. Go to Catalog > Items, find the laboratory analysis or panel, and select the pen button to open it.

  2. Go to the Stock and pricing tab in the item dialogue.

  3. Under Pricing options, select No lab handling fee.

Set Up a Laboratory Urgency Fee

The laboratory urgency fee is used for laboratory referrals marked as urgent, but users can decide whether to include the urgency fee or not when creating a referral.

  1. Go to Catalog > Items and create a procedure item that will be used as the laboratory urgency fee item. The VAT rate and the fee are defined by this item.

  2. Go to Settings > Department > Laboratory and select Allow marking a laboratory referral as urgent.

  3. In the Urgent laboratory handling fee item field, select the item you created.
