View Laboratory Referrals and Results

You can view laboratory referrals and analyses and results on several different pages:

Dashboard

To monitor the status of laboratory referrals and laboratory results on Patient care > Dashboard, add the two laboratory widgets to your dashboard view in your personal profile settings.

  • The Laboratory analyses section shows the individual analysis items. You can use the search field and filters to find specific analyses. The analysis results are shown in the Results column when the With results filter or All filter is used.

  • The Laboratory requests section shows laboratory analyses as panel selections. You can use the search field and filters to find referrals.

Laboratory Page

A separate Laboratory page may be available under Patient care in the left navigation. This page lists the department's laboratory referrals with results in the Analyses / Panels column. You can use the filters and search options to find specific referrals. To view more search options, select Show extended search.

To view a laboratory referral, select the list button at the end of the row (a).

To go to the related consultation page, select the stethoscope button at the end of the row (b).

Consultation and Patient Pages

On the consultation page, the referrals added to the consultation are listed in the Diagnostics > Laboratory section. On the patient's page, they are listed on the Labs tab.

On both pages, the requests filter shows a list of referrals with the results in the Analyses / Panel column. The analyses filter shows the individual analysis items of panels with the results in the Result column. On the patient page, you can also filter laboratory referrals by status and whether they are internal or external laboratory tests.

To view the referral page, select the list button at the end of the row (a).

To print the referral information, select the printer button at the end of the row (b).

Referral Page

On the referral page, you can view the referral information in more detail, including the analysis results, any referral or laboratory remarks, internal notes, sample location information, reports and result classification, and any additional attachments. You can also add and approve analysis results on the referral page. In addition, the following functions are available in the tool bar at the bottom of the page:

  • Referrals: Opens the Laboratory page.

  • Consultation: Opens the related consultation page.

  • Show log: Opens a log that shows the history of actions on the referral.

  • Status drop-down list: You can change the referral status manually.

  • Lock: You can lock the referral so that it cannot be edited.

  • Print laboratory label: You can print a laboratory label.

  • Print / email: You can print or email the referral information.

  • Delete: You can delete the referral if it is not locked.

Laboratory Referral Statuses

The Referral # or Status column on the pages shows the referral status:

  • Grey: Not started. Review the referral submission and laboratory integration status to make sure that the submission is correctly submitted and received. You may need to submit the referral manually after reviewing.

  • Blue: In progress. Testing is in progress, waiting for results.

  • Green: Complete. The testing has been completed and the results are available.
