Special procedures, such as euthanasia or sterilisation, automatically update the patient's status or general information. When an item defined as a euthanasia procedure is added during a consultation, the patient is automatically archived, with a reason of death detailed as euthanasia. When an item defined as a sterilization/neutering procedure is added, the patient's gender is automatically updated to the sterilised form.
To automate the process of updating the patient's status in these scenarios, you need to define the items as a special procedure to trigger the associated patient update.
Define a Special Procedure
Only procedure and medicine item types can be defined as special procedure items. The names of the special procedures may vary depending on department home country.
- Go to Settings > Items & Lists > Items.
- To add a new procedure or medicine item, select Add item > Add procedure or Add medicine. To edit an existing item, find the item in the list and select the pen button on the row.
- From the Special procedure or Special medicine drop-down list, select the option you want to assign, for example, Euthanasia.
- Add any other relevant item information and select Save.
