Medicine item profiles offer a medicine type drop-down selection menu for primarily UK market use. Medicine types can be accessed by following Settings > Items & lists > Items > Open appropriate medicine profile > Medicine type.
Medicine types are defined as shown below:
Type | Abbreviation meaning | Description |
POM | Prescription Only Medicines | Prescription-only medicines from qualified prescribers (doctors, dentists, nurse or pharmacist independent prescribers, or supplementary prescribers). |
POM-VPS | Prescription Only Medicines - Vet/Pharmacist/Suitably Qualified Person | Prescription-only medicines prescribed by a veterinarian, pharmacist or a suitably qualified person. |
POM-V | Prescription Only Medicines - Veterinarians | Prescribed only by a veterinarian. |
OTC | Over the Counter | Over the counter. |
NFA-VPS | Non-Food Animals - Vet/Pharmacist/Suitably Qualified Person | Non-food animal non-prescription medicine sold by a veterinarian, pharmacist or a suitably qualified person. |
AVM-GSL | Authorized Veterinary Medicine - General Sales List medicines | General sales list medicines, obtained without a prescription from, for example, a pharmacy or a supermarket. |
SAES | Small Animal Exemption Schemes | The SAES permits certain medicines to be placed on the market without a marketing authorisation (MA), subject to certain conditions. |
